It seems to me you have to deal with leaving and cleaving issues early on in your marriage. Sulojana physically left her parents and travelled to another country when she married. She would have been very dependant on Jeeva. I suppose she would have had to mentally and emotionally break her “cleaving” to her parents.
Since my parents did not approve of our marriage I had to make a choice between my parents and my husband. This conflict caused a lot of stress in the early years of our marriage. Over the years the relationship with my parents has mended. I have tried to learn from my situation by being accepting and loving towards those whom my children have chosen to marry.
When my husband used to say “You’re just like your mom” or I would say “You’re just like your dad”, it usually refered to a negative trait. We don’t say this anymore because they are unfair statements and not uplifting. We carry both the positive and negative infuences of our parents. We have also passed on to our children good and bad characteristics. I pray that God will work out all things for good.
