A President and a Humanitarian. Rest in Peace Jimmy Carter (1924-2024)
At 100 Huntley Street, we honour and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. President Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 on December 29th after nearly two years in hospice care, was a true servant leader whose faith inspired his tireless commitment to peace, justice, and compassion. His unwavering dedication to Christ’s love and his transformative impact on the world will continue to inspire generations.
Funeral services were held in Washington Thursday January 9th, with President Carter to be interred near his home in Plains, Georgia.
President Carter appeared on 100 Huntley Street in 1993 while on a build for Habitat for Humanity in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario. 100 Huntley Street Founder David Mainse went to the building site.
Former President Carter left an indelible impression on our team and our viewers across Canada.
Known for his humility and unwavering faith, Jimmy Carter’s presidency was marked by significant achievements, including the Camp David Accords, which brought peace between Egypt and Israel, and the creation of the Department of Energy. But it was not just Carter’s political career that defined him. Through Habitat for Humanity and his commitment to global health, Carter’s life has been one of compassion and dedicated service to others. Even as he faced health challenges in his later years, Carter continued to teach those who knew him the importance of faith, resilience, and generosity. Carter’s life story is a legacy of faith in action, and we are certain that his influence will continue to inspire generations to come.
As we reflect on the inspiring life of Jimmy Carter, let us consider this Bible verse which seems to clearly reflect his disposition to living a life that reflects God’s goodness and grace, Galatians 6:9-10 says, ‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity let us do good to all people.’
Please join us and take a moment to pray for his loved ones, asking God to surround them with His peace and comfort during this time. Our hearts and prayers are with them all.
“The most important Bible teaching that I remembered when I was in the Navy and when I was Commander-in-Chief, was that we worshipped The Prince of Peace. Jesus Christ is The Prince of Peace. So, I considered myself, as a submarine officer, as helping to preserve the peace. And I felt the same way when I was president.”
